Saga Frontier
Role: Princess White Rose Convention: Youmacon 2009 Premise: Asellus searches for her beloved princess. However, their meeting does not go as planned... Award(s): Best Journeyman Presentation; Judge's award for craftsmanship! Notes: This was the most bizarre skit creation I have ever been a part of. A couple of months before the con, Megan (Asellus) decided she wanted to create a giant bud for me to "bloom" from. She made a bud out of wire and dyed fabric and we planned on doing a graceful, pleasant skit. Well, time constraints got the better of us and we were forced to mix our skit in the hotel room on Friday night of Youmacon. After an hour of mixing music, we struggled to find an appropriate ending song so we started getting silly. An off-hand joke about Claratin made us laugh pretty hard (as most things do at 2AM) and we decided to incorporate it into our skit. We recorded the skit using the crummy mic on my laptop and old SFX from "Game of Life." We didn't even mix the skit to CD until 1PM the day of the performance. It was a completely last-minute skit and I was REALLY surprised to win Best Journeyman skit! It was also Megan's first skit and I'm really happy that I got to share the experience with her!
Sora the Explorer
Role: Naruto; Voice: Kairi Convention: Sakuracon 2009 Premise: Uh.... Award(s): Best in Show! Notes: Although I was involved in the editing of this skit, I was never intended to be a cast member. However, thanks to Kayla and Mandy, I was thrown in as a last-minute addition to the cast and I could not be more thankful. This skit was definitely one of my favorites! It is one of our most techinical skits and we had a fairly large cast so we all had to practice quite a bit. (Which, as usual, was so much fun!) Our work paid off though because the audience was absolutely wonderful - they laughed and groaned in just the right places and played along with us the whole time! It was a really, really cool experience!
The Game Of Life
Role: ??? Convention: Anime Central 2008 Premise: Light Yagami awakes in a dark room, chained to a chair. A mysterious voice presents him with a gruesome choice: "play a little game" or die. Award(s): Best in Show! Notes: The idea for this skit came to me when the girls and I were discussing horror-themed skits to perform at Sakuracon 08. The idea was impossible with 4+ people but, after some encouraging words from Krystal, I wrote up a draft of the script and we decided to perform it at Acen. After some revisions to accomidate the 2:30 time limit, we had our skit. Krystal and I both thought it was funny but we were completely unprepared for the reaction we got - it was amazing! The audience caught on to the Saw theme immediately and it was just a wall of laughs. I still get butterflies when I think about it - one of the best cosplay experiences I've ever had, for sure.
Between Life and Death Note
Role: Naruto; Voice: Orihime Convention: Sakuracon 2008 Premise: Three strangers find themselves dead at the hands of Kira. To resotre their lives, they must first restore balance to the world...by defeating Kira. Award(s):N/A Notes: This skit developed out of desperation about a month before the con and went through many different revisions. Our group had some grand ambitions for Sakuracon 08 but could never quite come to a decision on the type of skit we wanted to do. However, our ideas were all too difficult to pull off. For example, at one point, we intended to build a giant, 5-foot fireplace from which Harry Potter would use floo powdwer to magically appear on stage. We decided our ambitions needed to be turned down. Kayla thought up this idea for a skit less than a month before the con when we were all at our breaking point. We all liked the idea though and worked very hard to pull it off. However, our desire to tone it down influenced our performance by making it very dialogue-heavy and less visually interesting. That being said, we are not 100% pleased with this skit but I am still proud that we were able to pull this off in such a short amount of time!
Super Elric Brothers
Role: Card Captor Sakura Convention: Sakuracon 2007 Premise: When Winry is kidnapped, it's up to Ed to save her. With the use of a mysterious green pipe as his doorway, Ed battles the clock and must travel through a series of strange, shoujo-themed worlds to find his friend. Can he find her in time to profess his love? Award(s): Best Veteran Skit! Notes: This was the first skit I was ever a part of and it will always hold a special place in my heart! I absolutely love this skit and I am so happy that we received such a positive response! It was my first time performing and I was so nervous! It was also my first time winning an award and it was a really incredible experience!
