ALPHONSE ELRIC
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa
Worn to: Youmacon 06, Sakuracon 07, Acen 08
Status: Active
I am obsessed with Fullmetal Alchemist. If there was an FMA version of a Narutard, I'd be THAT rolled in a stupid otaku, dunked in a bucket of pure shame.
Although I was only moderately pleased with the movie, so happy to see Al back in his human form because I knew I could finally cosplay him without building a 7 foot suit of armor. But of course, the animators clearly didn't think of cosplayers when they not only made Al LOOK like Ed, but gave him practically the same clothes. Not only was I a big, walking spoiler, I was also mistaken for Ed 17 times in 4 hours.
Despite all that, I love cosplaying Al. I get to portray my favorite character and geek out with all the FMAers at the same time!
The costume itself was pretty simple and most of it has been remade twice.
The shirt was a civil war pattern suggested to me by my dear friend Krystal and worked wonderfully. I used a really thick interfacing which not only helped the shirt stand up
but also helped make my chest look flatter. :D The coat itself was easy but I had a lot of problems with the hood! There must have been something very wrong with me when I was sewing
it together because I kept sewing it wrong side out TIME after TIME until I finally got it right! The flammel on the back was made using a stencil of a blown up picture of the symbol, cut out, and traced in fabric chalk. I ended up painting
the inside with black acrylic and it turned out really nicely! The gloves were made using another stencil, this time traced with fabric marker. The first wig was a bit of a disaster but the second was a wig from ebay that I absolutely adore. The pants and shoes I picked up at a thrift store.
This costume is probably the most sentimental of all of my costumes becuase it helped me meet three of my best friends. Lots and lots of good memories!
